Mission

Connecting patients with volunteers to access medication.

TransMed helps patients in Africa access medication only available in Europe, thanks to volunteers based there.

How does it work?

  • 01

    The patient creates a request

The patient lists their medication, attaches their prescription and specifies their address. The request is published and visible to volunteers.

  • 02

    Volunteers offer to help

A volunteer can offer to buy and send the medication, only deliver it, or take on both roles alone.

  • 03

    Buyer and carrier confirmed

As soon as a buyer and a carrier are engaged — or a single volunteer for both roles — the request moves to the "Ready" status.

  • 04

    Delivery is organized

The medication is in the carrier's hands — either received from the buyer or purchased directly. The meet-up with the patient is coordinated via the chat.

  • 05

    Hand-to-hand delivery

The patient confirms the meet-up. The carrier delivers the medication to the agreed address.

  • 06

    Request completed

The delivery is confirmed, the request is closed. The patient has received their medication.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. TransMed is a solidarity platform, free for both patients and volunteers. Only the cost of the medication (and any transport cost) is arranged directly between the people involved.

Carrying medication for a relative, in personal quantities and with the matching prescription, is generally tolerated. Each volunteer remains responsible for checking the regulations of the departure and destination countries. TransMed only connects people — it never buys, sells or ships any medication.

Every volunteer's email is verified, just like patients'. Before publishing their first request, the patient signs a usage consent; and the volunteer, by signing the TransMed charter, commits to medical confidentiality, agreed timelines and reporting any issue. TransMed is built on mutual aid and solidarity: we assume the volunteer acts in good faith and simply wants to help.

Prescribed medication, in quantities matching personal use, together with its prescription. Products under specific regulation (narcotics, cold-chain, etc.) may be restricted or forbidden — it is up to the volunteer to check before travelling.
